About me

Hi there, I’m Patrick, a PhD Candidate in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Northwestern University. I’m advised by Prof. Dr. Katsaggelos in his AI in Multimedia - Image and Video Processing Lab, and I am affiliated with the SkAI Institute, the NSF-Simons National AI Institute for the Sky.

My research on AI-Accelerated Simulations with Multiscale Astrophysics focuses on scientific machine learning, specifically physics-informed neural networks and simulations in astrophysics. I aim to build models that are explainable, robust, and scientifically grounded, bridging the gap between AI capabilities and our ability to trust its results. With over 10 years of industry experience in software development and project management, I am driven to translate cutting-edge research into real-world applications. My foundation in this field began during my master’s in data science at the Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences, where I was supervised by Prof. Dr. Schuster at the Interdisciplinary Center for Artificial Intelligence.

On a lighter note, I am a Swiss native now calling the Chicago area my home away from the mountains for my PhD. Nothing makes me happier than gathering with friends and family to share stories, laughs, and those little moments that make life so great. In my free time, I am often lost in music, whether exploring Chicago’s legendary blues scene or strumming my guitar. When I am not geeking out on AI, you will find me on two wheels, hitting the pavement as an avid runner, or practicing martial arts to stay grounded. I would love to connect and explore potential collaborations, so please feel free to reach out. Let’s make something exciting happen!
